Geriatric and Family Medicine Associates is proud to announce that our office is now home to a commissioned set of artwork, hand-painted by Veronica Burke at The Painted Posey. Veronica is a celebrated artist, local to the Denver Metro Area, known for her captivating nature-inspired paintings that evoke a sense of calm, inviting patients to pause, take a breath, and feel a little more at ease during their visit. These hand-painted pieces were designed with our patients in mind, transforming our space into one of healing and connection.

Art and Health: A Powerful Connection

You’ve probably never thought much about the art on a doctor’s office wall. But research shows it matters—a lot. The right visuals can make a real difference in how people feel. Positive distractions, like calming landscapes or serene nature scenes, reduce stress and improve emotional well-being.

Let’s be honest: visiting the doctor can be stressful. You’re often anxious or feeling under the weather. Artwork can help. It gives your mind a chance to rest, offering a peaceful distraction when needed. A waiting room lined with nature-themed art—forests, rivers, mountains, trees—can take a sterile, clinical space and turn it into a place that feels warm and restorative.

Art and Mental Health: Why It Matters

Looking at art isn’t just about seeing something pretty—it actually makes you feel better. Research shows that viewing artwork can spark positive emotions, like joy or curiosity, and even reduce stress. For people struggling with anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges, art can be a game-changer. It’s an opportunity to relax, reflect, and connect with something beautiful. And it gets personal, too. Art has this magical ability to mean different things to different people. A painting might remind you of a happy memory, inspire you to dream bigger, or simply brighten your day. It’s about finding comfort, hope, or beauty—even in a healthcare setting.

How Art Is Displayed Makes a Difference

Where you put the art matters almost as much as the art itself. A cluttered wall won’t have the same calming effect as a thoughtfully chosen piece placed where people can really enjoy it. That’s why GFMA has carefully selected spots throughout our office to display Veronica Burke’s work. Did you know knowing an artist’s backstory can change how you see their work? For example, Veronica’s pieces reflect her love for nature and her belief that art can be a healing experience. Knowing this makes the art feel even more meaningful.

Bringing Nature Indoors

Sometimes, a room doesn’t have windows or a great view—but that doesn’t mean it has to feel lifeless. Art can act as a window to nature. Research shows that people in hospitals and healthcare settings consistently value access to nature views. Even in windowless spaces, artwork depicting serene landscapes or calming outdoor scenes brings a bit of the outside world indoors.

A Thoughtful Touch for Patients

Art is more than decoration—it’s a tool for healing. At GFMA, we believe every detail of our space matters, including the art on the walls. From helping reduce stress to supporting emotional well-being, thoughtfully displayed, nature-inspired art can transform a doctor’s office into a place of comfort and care. So, the next time you visit, take a moment to enjoy Veronica Burke’s beautiful work. We hope it brings you a little peace and calm when you need it most.
